How to Help a Shopper With Their Cart on Shopify During Black Friday

To help a shopper with their cart on Shopify, you need to see the exact cart they are looking at. Shopify does not show a customer's cart to your team. Cartlytics does: its Cart ID widget shows a short ID on your cart page, the shopper reads it out or pastes it in chat, and your team searches it on the Carts page to open that cart with its products, value and journey. From there you can turn it into a draft order the shopper pays.

On Black Friday these messages arrive when the shopper is ready to buy. Answering in one minute instead of ten is often the difference between an order and a lost cart.

The Black Friday support problem

During a sale most support messages come before the order, not after it. The discount code does not apply. A product shows the wrong price. The checkout gives an error. The shopper wants to add a gift note.

Your team cannot see the cart. So they ask what is in it, which variant, which code, which country. Each question costs minutes, and on Black Friday the shopper has other tabs open.

How to set it up, step by step

1

Install Cartlytics

Install from the Shopify App Store. Carts start to show within minutes, with no code.

2

Turn on the Cart ID widget

In your Shopify theme editor, open App embeds and turn on Cart ID for Support. It adds a small card to your cart page with a short Cart ID and a Copy button. You can change its title and text, for example to "Need help with your cart?".

3

Tell your team where to search

When a shopper sends a Cart ID, your team pastes it into the search on the Carts page. The same search also finds a cart by customer or phone.

4

Fix the cart and send it back

The cart opens with its products, quantities, value and the shopper's journey. To close the sale, turn the cart into a Shopify draft order, correct it, and send the invoice from Shopify. The shopper pays with one link.

Tips for the sale weekend

Put the Cart ID in your support macros: ask for it in the first reply, not the third. Mention it in your chat greeting during the sale.

Phone support works too. The ID is short enough to read out loud.

After the sale, look at which carts needed help. If many shoppers had the same problem with a code or a product, fix it before the next sale.

Common questions

Can I see a customer's cart on Shopify?

Not in Shopify itself. Shopify shows orders and abandoned checkouts, not the contents of a live cart. Cartlytics shows every cart live, and its Cart ID widget lets a shopper give your support team the ID of their exact cart.

Where does the Cart ID show?

On your cart page, as a small card with the ID and a Copy button. You turn it on under App embeds in the Shopify theme editor. It shows only when the cart has items.

Can my team change the cart for the shopper?

Your team cannot edit the shopper's cart directly, but they can turn it into a Shopify draft order, change it there, and send the invoice. The shopper pays from the link in that email.
